Beginning of the End

Ramlila Ground in Delhi was witness to one of the most heinous acts against a peaceful congregation of people in recent history of Independent India. Though the Congress party has decayed over the years, doing anything and everything to grab power wherever on offer, the show it put up on Ramlila Ground in Delhi was nothing short of barbaric. The brutality with which men, women, children and elderly were attacked by the uniformed goons of Indian State is unparalleled.

The drama at Ramlila grounds unfolded past midnight on 4th of June 2011 A.D. when Police Personnel were given orders to break the sit-in protest and clear the area. A massive contingent of Delhi Police backed by other agencies of the Goverment swooped on the unsuspecting people. They were showered with tear gas shells and lathi-charged to empty the area. Baba Ramdev heading the protest was arrested and later released in Haridwar.

Mr. Kapil Sibal, who has now a days emerged as the go-to man for Madam and her mandarins, not content with this, raised several questions against Baba Ramdev, Anna Hazare and who not. One of his recent quotes was that Baba should clarify as to from where he built his Rs 5000 crore empire. Sibal saheb should be intelligent enough to understand that Baba Ramdev held no position of power which he could use as a bargaining chip to fill his coffers. Baba Ramdev is a sanyasi who teaches people the techniques of Yoga and charges money from them apart from accepting donations.

Kapil Sibal also said that there were large number of people in Ramlila Grounds and more were expected to pour in so it was necessary to control the situation so that no untoward incident could take place. Further, he says that permission was given to Baba Ramdev to organise a Yoga camp there and not political meeting. I would humbly ask Sibal saheb, him being the senior lawyer, that sir where is it written in Indian Constitution that if more people are expected to arrive at a place which is already holding nearly twice its capacity, the state has the power to attack and use all means necessary to disperse the ones already present there. And while doing so have no regard whatsoever to the security and dignity of women, children and elderly present.

If the Government and its uniformed goons are so powerful, why don't they try to remove blockades by Jats, Gujjars demanding reservations?

Rahul Baba so sweetly (pun intended), criticized the Maya Govt in UP for attacking villages of people refusing to give up their lands for piecemeal compensation, where is he now?? How will he justify this brazen attack on democracy by his 'own' people?

The Indian National Congress has over its rule of more that 50 years out of 65 years of Independent India, institutionalized corruption. I am no fan of Baba Ramdev, but i am a bigger opponent of how a peaceful demonstration was demolished. Anna Hazare who was ceremoniously promised that the Lokpal Bill will be promulgated as soon as possible and all the demands of civil society will be taken into account is now being treated like dirt. I am surprised that it is being done by the same party that once walked behind Gandhiji and helped him win freedom for India.

The last nail in the coffin of Indian National Congress was struck today by Manmohan Singh when he said that what happened in Ramlila grounds was tragic, but necessary. He went on to say that Government is very serious about tackling corruption and bringing back Black Money to India. If the government is so serious why no action is being taken on its part to tackle the menace? Why again and again the Govt is emphasizing that PM, Judiciary and MPs cannot be under the purview of Lokpal? If the highest offices of land are not answerable on something as important as corruption then should the Lokpal go after the Inspectors and Chaprasis and like. These are the people who are pushed into corruption due to corrupt practices at the top of Govt. The change, if at all, comes will come top bottom and not the other way round.

It is high time for us the people of India to wake up to reality and demand for the Lokpal Bill to be enacted, next Lok Sabha elections are far away and the issue of corruption will fade away by then. This is the right time to show our support to Anna and everyone who is fighting on our behalf lest it be too late.
